Fluss (Stadt Land)

In what way the globalized world produces new spaces of isolation? And how can the gap between isolation and networking be understood as an assignment for audience and theater makers, using the means of music theater?

In Fluss (Stadt Land), the third part of the trilogy Stadt Land Fluss, the audience is for one hour in two places at the same time: As a group, it shares a non-representational, empty stage space, in which it is reflected on itself. Isolated from the group by VR glasses, each visitor is simultaneously moved to one of those places at stake when it comes to the question of belonging to a society offering shelter: to the external border of the EU, on the shore of the border river Evros between Greece and Turkey.

The film was shot with a 360 ° camera in a single, 50-minute long, continuous shot in the morning light on the banks of the wintry Evros River. Only a few props in the 360 ° panorama landscape are reminiscent of an existing presence: a wooden hut, tarpaulins, a semi-finished border fence, a stray dog. The emptiness of the border river is the condition of our living together in the center; no city, no country without a river. Fluss (Stadt Land) is a conclusion and a new beginning, a borderline experience.

Fluss (Stadt Land) is the final part of the trilogy Stadt Land Fluss. The three full-length musical theater pieces deal with specific forms of coexistence, in the diversity of urban constellations (Stadt), in semi-complex networks of rural environment (Land) and under the conditions of geographical and socio-economic isolation (Fluss). The theme always determines the interplay of the media in the piece itself. As in the first two parts of the trilogy, Kötter / Seidl in the Fluss (Stadt Land) fold the exterior space into the interior and address the stage as a sonic space of the temporary cohabitation of the audience.

Auf welche Weise produziert die global vernetzte Welt neue Räume der Isolation? Und wie lässt sich – mit den Mitteln des Musiktheaters – jene Spanne zwischen Isolation und Vernetzung als ein Auftrag verstehen für Publikum und Theatermacher?

In Fluss (Stadt Land), dem dritten Teil der Trilogie Stadt Land Fluss, ist das Publikum für eine Stunde an zwei Orten zugleich: Als Gruppe teilt es einen darstellerlosen, leeren Bühnenraum, in dem es auf sich selbst zurückgeworfen ist. Vereinzelt, und von der Gruppe isoliert durch eine VR-Brille, wird jede*r Besucher*in aber gleichzeitig an einen jener Orte versetzt, an dem die Frage nach Zugehörigkeit zu einer Schutz bietenden Gesellschaft auf dem Spiel steht: an die Außengrenze der EU, an das Ufer des Grenzflusses Evros zwischen Griechenland und der Türkei.

Der Film wurde mit einer 360°-Kamera in einer einzigen, 50minütigen, schnittlosen Aufnahme im Morgenlicht am Ufer des winterlichen Evros-Flusses gedreht. Nur wenige Requisiten in der 360°-Panorama-Landschaft erinnern an eine gewesene Anwesenheit: eine Holzhütte, Planen, ein halb fertig gebauter Grenzzaun, ein streunender Hund. Die Leere am Grenzfluss ist die Bedingung unseres Zusammenlebens im Zentrum; keine Stadt, kein Land ohne Fluss. Fluss (Stadt Land) ist ein Abschluss und ein Neubeginn, eine Grenzerfahrung.

Fluss (Stadt Land) ist der abschließende Teil der Trilogie Stadt Land Fluss. Die drei abendfüllenden Musiktheaterstücke beschäftigen sich mit spezifischen Formen des Zusammenlebens, in der Diversität urbaner Konstellationen (Stadt), in überschaubaren Netzwerken ruraler Umgebung (Land) und unter den Bedingungen der geographischen und sozio-ökonomischen Isolation (Fluss). Die Thematik bestimmt dabei immer auch das Zusammenspiel der Medien im Stück selbst. Wie schon in den ersten beiden Teilen der Trilogie falten Kötter/Seidl in Fluss (Stadt Land) den Außenraum in den Innenraum und thematisieren die Bühne als Klang- Raum des temporären Zusammenlebens des Publikums.
